Congress appropriated $6.15 million for the establishment of the National Fire Academy. In 1981, the facilities and campus were entered into the Federal register as the National Emergency Training Center. The NETC's parent agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, supervises its administrative and financial activities.
FEMA's Emergency Management Institute offers self-paced, free online training for public safety and emergency management. Many different courses are available with tests and certificates. ICS 100 introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher-level ICS training.
