**You** determine **slope** by dividing the change of the y by the change of the x. If it is a linear relationship (points make a line), then **you** can pick ANY two pairs of values. If **you** have a table, **you** should have “pairs” of values.Typically, the first one is the x, the second one is the y.

**To understand slope in algebra**, think of it as the measure of how steep a straight line is. The **slope** is equal to rise over run, where the rise is the vertical distance between 2 points and run is the horizontal distance between 2 points. So, if the **slope** is equal to 3/2, you would need to go up 3 and over 2 on a graph to get to each new point. ...

**Slope** = change in y over the change in x. **Slope** = (y2 – y1)/ (x2 – x1) **Slope** = rise over run. **You** can pick any two points on a line to **calculate** the **slope**. **You** can double check your answer by trying different points on the line. If the line is going up, from left to right, the **slope** is positive.
